Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown Scholarship

General Information and Instructions
The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown has been promoting the education of college students in the field of horticulture through scholarships, since 1991. Scholarships will range from $500 to $1,500 and will be awarded to a student pursing a college degree in Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Design, or allied subject.
Applicant Qualifications:
·Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or a currently enrolled college student continuing their education in a horticulture program at a post-secondary two- or four-year institution.
·Applicant must attend an accredited college/university in the United States.
·Applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, based on the 4.0 system.
·Applicant must currently live in or have attended high school in Columbiana, Mahoning, Stark or Trumbull County in Ohio or Mercer and Lawrence County in Pennsylvania.
Application Procedure:
1.Complete attached application, including requirement for letters of recommendation and transcripts described on second page of application.
2.Return all application materials by March 1, 2013 to Keith Kaiser Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown, Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Avenue, Youngstown, OH44509.
3.Applicants meeting all requirements will be contacted by telephone to schedule a personal interview at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown.
4.All interviewed applicants will be notified by May 1st of their status with respect to the scholarship.
5.Successful candidate will attend the May meeting of Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown to receive the scholarship.

2012 Scholarship Recipient
Emily Conrad - Louisville, Ohio
Emily is in her second year of the horticulture program at Kent State - Salem where she is on the Dean’s List. Emily’s interest and commitment to her community is evident in her numerous extracurricular activities. Her diverse interests include track, band and National Honor Society at school, church youth group and bell choir, and FFA and 4H. She has also served in a leadership role in both 4H where she had been active for ten years and the FFA, having recently earned her State FFA degree.
With her scholarship, leadership skills, and enthusiastic commitment to her community Emily will surely realize her goal of working in the Green Industry. The Scholarship Committee is pleased to award this year’s scholarship to Emily Conrad.
